Dear PP,
On your story about bad things at bad Catholic Colleges add the University of Detroit Mercy's -
Pro-abortion, former nun, current Theology Prof. Jane Schaberg (and member of Catholics for Choice).
And of course her abortion connection is listed on the school's official WebPages.

Father--- regarding the CNN observation about the world rugby games, HIV, and the 'need' to legalize prostitution...the problem is that you were on the CNN website. Not a source of information, truth, or facts for that matter...and bad for the brain.

Perhaps just me, but your blog would be easier to read without the colored backgrounds.
Keep up the good work regardless.
Priestly Pugilist:
Thanks for your observation. It's the first complaint of this kind I've received; so, I'll take it under advisement.

Hi PP,
I just read your article on the people of Viet Nam who have to pay a fine for having more than 2 children. Is there any way we can donate money to that area to help pay fines for families?
Priestly Pugilist:
Unfortunately, I do not have that information.

Because some little boy out there has been posting nusance posts to the guestbook, I've made some changes. He's already too stupid to realize that #@*%! codes have always been disabled here; but now I've been forced to impose further restrictions. Effective immediately, you will have to wait for ten minutes after your post before the system will allow you to post again. Also, individual words of 20 characters or more have been disallowed to avoid the posting of random characters. Your PP apologizes for the inconvenience.

Hello!
I just ran across you blog and it drew my most close attention. It is so very important that you take your time to criticise the modern society and church trends. I have bookmarked your blog and will come back for sure.
I am brought up in Russian Orthodox Church tradition, though I am not baptised as many of modern youth - the result of 70 years under communists. That doesn't mean I am not Christian though.
The Church in Russia was "revived" in 1990s and the way it has grown in only 20 years is quite impressive..
I came to know some of the priests and I am not quite satisfied with the way they view the modern world. They tend to be.. sort of too conservative, as if they try to turn back time and bring the church the way it used to be before the revolution of 1917th...
Sorry for my English :)
And... Yes I know that this blog is where YOU post your thoughts :) just have noone to talk to about it
Priestly Pugilist:
Thanks for your comments. It's nice to have a reader from so far away.

Father
Thank you for this resource and the effort you make to bring forth truth from the confusion of relativism. And, btw, Rush nailed it on Notre Dame but to add that the tradition of ND is and will always be trumped by the Tradition of the Church.
Priestly Pugilist:
Well, let us hope.

"There are no characters left in the Catholic Church". So, so very wrong! You, PP, are certainly a character. I agree that there is a lack of individualism and backbone among many priests in the United States. Thank God we have a few here in Lincoln. Keep fighting the good fight, you are a breath of fresh air (sometimes more of a tornado) for those of us who long to see the Catholic Church and it's leaders strong, proud and unafraid to speak the TRUTH and practice the faith . Thanks!

What a wonderful site! I have just spent quite a bit of time reading your entries. As a convert late in life (age 57 when I entered the Church), I appreciate so much your encouragement of the bishops with character. It is sad that although I believe in the truth of the Church and her teachings, I am often confronted with many of the attitudes you have discussed here, particularly the "go along to get along" attitude of some priests and quite a few lay people. I will be back often, and have bookmarked your site. Thank you very much for your efforts!
Priestly Pugilist:
Thanks for your kind words. And you are right: it's the eternal struggle of a Church of Divine institution entrusted to the care of flaud human beings; or, as we used to say, the human element in the Church. It's not confined to this age, but has been with us always. It's part of our fallen nature.

I love your page. What is your opinion of the trappings of the modern American Church; that is, the modern music, the glad-handing "sign of Peace" the removal of color and beautiful artwork from many churches, the fashionable "seamless garment"?
Priestly Pugilist:
Fortunately, as a priest of an Eastern Catholic Church, I don't have to endure any of that. But I am familiar with it. I don't envy you.

Couldn't find a link for an RSS feed from your site, you should enable RSS feeding or Atom feeding and/or make it more visible. I'd love to have your site on my reader's role!
Thanks!

Okay, Pugilist. More statistics. "For women whose marital status was adequately reported, 78% of women who obtained abortions were known to be unmarried. The abortion ratio for unmarried women was 8.8 times the ratio for married women (570 versus 65 abortions per 1,000 live births)."
from Abortion Statistics, Almanac of Policy Issues. You will have to google this yourself as your guestbook thinks the URL contains invalid words.
The statistics are from 1999-2000. I would expect some changes since then, but only small ones.
Unmarried women account for the great majority of abortions performed in the US, and abort at a far higher rate. This is one reason why we need to teach that sex belongs within marriage. A baby conceived outside of marriage runs a very high risk of being aborted; a baby conceived within marriage, a relatively low one.
Why would you think that "the vast majority of abortions performed in the United States are performed on married women who were trying to have children?" A substantial number of pregnancies do result in an embryo with a defect, but nearly all of these naturally miscarry within the first ten weeks, or "spontaneously abort" in the medical terminology. "Spontaneous abortion" is an unfortunate term, but is not to be confused with "induced abortion." If not for fetal defect, why would a married woman trying to have children abort? "We changed our mind" must be vanishingly small. Around 3% abort for fetal defect; another 3-4% for maternal health problems.

Abortions for any fetal defect are a small minority of abortions in this country, less than 5%. So many people feel revulsion against people with DS, or other deformity, retardation or handicap, that to say that 80% of abortions are for this reason will only increase popular support for abortion.
I have heard this revulsion from my own family when I was grieving a baby miscarried because of DS, and they knew I was grieving. (80% of DS babies, that is, with trisomy 21, will die of natural causes before birth.)
It is true that 80-90% of babies diagnosed with DS before birth will be aborted, but not that 80% of all aborted babies have been diagnosed with DS.
Check out the figures from the Guttmacher Institute - even the pro-abortionists admit that "possible fetal health problems" only account for 3% of abortions.

We on the pro-life side MUST have our facts straight. I'm a nurse as well as a pro-lifer. Double obligation.
Priestly Pugilist:
Thanks for the information. The link you sent was very informative, so I have edited my post accordingly. Good work!

You may leave a comment here about the Priestly Pugilist in general, or about a specfic post. Your PP cannot promise to respond; so, basically, your comment is for your own theraputic benefit (unless I'm in a particularly chatty mood).
Anything else except that which is mentioned above could very likely be deleted, should I find the time and get around to it. That goes, too, for anything off-color, vulgar, self-serving, or anything that I generally don't like using my own purely subjective criteria.
Too much of the above mentioned may result in this feature being removed. After all, Priestly Pugilist exists for me to tell you what I think, not the other way 'round.
Please do not attempt to communicate with Father Venditti here. He doesn't read this, and won't see your message. If you need to get in touch with him, I suggest you visit his parish's web site. Your PP is not a messenger service.
All that being said, please enjoy the Priestly Pugilist, and have a nice day.
Regards,
Priestly Pugilist
